Where it all Began

This is a photo of what is now the Labia museum in Muizenberg (mouse mountain, because if you look from a certain angle and distance, it appears as if mice are running up the slopes!) Ever since farm days I'd longed to take up writing. In the late 'Eighties, with my children pretty much grown, I had time and energy to make a start. The big question was 'What to write?' Inspiration came when I attended a weekend writing workshop in this elegant and gracious mansion. One of the speakers was Professor Kole Omotoso and he suggested it would be important to record what everyday life was like under the Apartheid regime. And so the seed for my first novel was planted...

Dream, people, dream!
